Last Monday, Altec Lansing launched their new range of nearly indestructible Bluetooth speakers. The event was held the Rockwell Tent.
I was so excited to be invited to this launch because I have always been a fan of Altec Lansing. Just because I don’t want to spend a small fortune on high-end speakers, doesn’t mean I can stand those little tinny (tunog lata) 200-peso speakers.
Altec Lansing has been one of the brands I go to whenever I want good speakers, but don’t want to break the bank. Would you believe that my first pair of Altec Lansing speakers, ones that I bought for my PC more than 10 years ago (around Php 990 at the time), still works?
ALTEC LANSING’S #EVERYTHING PROOF BLUETOOTH SPEAKERS
This new series of Altec Lansing Bluetooth Speakers are close to indestructible. They are designed for outdoor use and can withstand the beach, the pool, camping, hiking, etc…
They are rated IP67, which means they are waterproof, dustproof, snowproof, rustproof and shockproof!
Here’s a video of the Altec Lansing Bluetooth Speakers getting extreme treatment. See how they survive!
Some of the models available are:

Mini Life Jacket
They also have some headphones which are waterproof – they are not designed to be worn underwater, but you can take them to the pool or the beach without worrying that they might fall in. In case they fall in the water, they float instead of sinking.
Here we are, testing the Mini Jacket H2O and dunking it in the water. It is still emitting sound even under water, and still works great like nothing happened once we took it out.
Here we half submerged the Mini H2O in water, and it was still playing:
All these new Altec Lansing Bluetooth speakers float on water, so that’s great if you want to listen to some music literally in the pool!
The ports are covered with a rubber flap, like this. The flap must be sealed properly to make sure that no water gets into the speaker.
I thought the white, shower head-shaped speaker (called the Soundstorm) was a fun idea! It is waterproof, so you can hang it on your shower and listen to music or podcasts while in the shower or in the bathtub. You can even answer phone calls with it! It has a speakerphone feature with noise cancellation. Talk about being super productive!
Almost all the other Bluetooth speakers in this range also have a speakerphone with voice command functionality, too.
The sound quality is very good. As expected from Altec Lansing. I was able to test the Mini H2O and it was surprisingly loud for its small size. There is really a big difference in sound quality between Altec Lansing and other budget-priced speakers.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF HAVING A PORTABLE BLUETOOTH SPEAKER?
Sometimes, the speakers on our gadgets are just not loud enough. For example, you have your entire song collection on your phone or on your laptop, and you want to play some music, but the speakers are just not loud enough. Or you want to watch a movie on your phone / laptop / tablet , but your laptop speakers are just too soft. Or you want to hold a conversation over the phone but want to be able to move around the kitchen, too, or clean your living room, while talking – you don’t need to buy expensive speakerphone systems like they have in your office’s conference room to do so.
A Bluetooth speaker comes in handy in situations like this. You can have the music / sound as loud as you want, keep the speaker up to several feet away, but be able to control the music with your phone (which you ideally have near you). There is no need to leave your phone docked to an appliance.
A portable Bluetooth speaker is more useful because you can take it anywhere! If you have an old car that doesn’t have Bluetooth, but want to play music from your phone, just bring a small Bluetooth speaker along, put it on your dashboard, or hang it from your rear view mirror, and listen to your music or take hands-free calls using that instead.
FYI, the warranty only covers problems arising from regular use. Your Altec Lansing bluetooth speaker might survive explosions and bullets, but those situations are not covered by the warranty
