Last Saturday, we attended a Zomato x SM Bicutan Food Crawl to check out the food places they have on offer.
For diners on a budget, there’s always the SM Food Court at Mall B, and we tried offerings from Chansel and Kain-Kainan.
If you would like to venture away from the food court, there’s also Tapa King at the Lower Ground Floor, Mall A.
All three of them offer food that won’t put a big dent in your wallet. A meal would typically cost about P150-200 per person, but you can probably get away with spending less.
CHANSEL PIZZA HAUS
We sampled their pizzas, which cost around P150 each for the whole pizza. It brings to mind the affordable type of pizza that my mom bought for us as treats back when we were in school.
It was nice to see that Chansel offered more pizza flavors than just the generic ham and cheese.
The pizza flavor I liked the best was the Spicy Tuna (P148) because I like the combination tuna and corn kernels.
I didn’t expect much from Kain Kainan, but I was surprised that the food was not bad at all. The price range for their dishes is P100-P145, and they also have promo meals at more value for money prices.
I liked their Sizzling BBQ Chicken, quite affordable at P109. It was sweet, delicious and very good value because it was a quarter leg piece.
Tapa King is known for Filipino favorites and aside from the usual Tapa King, Tapa Queen and Tapa Prince, they now also have other dishes like the Crispy Liempo, Garlic Kangkong, and a moist chocolate cake that only costs P65 per slice.
Their tapas are still quite good, best eaten with some suka (vinegar). Tapa King is still a classic.
These are not the restaurants that we typically dine at when we go out now. However, I remember frequenting Chansel during my student days, and it’s nice to see that it has thrived with more branches.
Kain-Kainan was a not-so-new discovery. I have seen it here and there at various SM food courts, but just now discovered that the barbecue chicken was actually quite good.
Tapa King was something I loved to have delivered, too, and is still something I fall back on when craving for a quick but very affordable Filipino meal.
