Whenever I travel to another city in the Philippines, I always want to check out their SM mall. Is that weird? Or do you do it, too?
Aside from going to the usual “local” attractions like public markets, famous local eateries and such, I also like to go to the malls because I feel like it gives me a good perspective on what that city is going to be like in the future. Malls show me what the locals are into. I take a look at the shops inside the malls and see if any local / regional brands made it there – I have discovered new cake shops, bake shops and coffee shops this way, without having to venture very far.
SM SEASIDE CITY CEBU
A few months ago, SM opened SM Seaside City Cebu. SM Seaside City Cebu is the biggest mall in Cebu. It is the third largest mall in the Philippines, third only to SM Megamall and SM City North Edsa.
It will have over 400 stores! All the latest and hip stores are there, like Forever 21, H&M, Uniqlo, Sfera, etc…
SM Seaside City Cebu also has an Olympic-size Ice Skating Rink, a 16-lane Bowling Center, and state-of-the-art cinemas and two Director’s Club Cinemas.

Being located on the waterfront, it has an amazing view of the Cebu Channel:
I really appreciate how the new SM malls have Skyparks. SM Seaside City Cebu is no exception, and has a big Skypark where visitors can enjoy the view of the water and the surrounding mountains, and also enjoy the cooling sea breeze.
The design of the mall is inspired by the sea and the mountain, using many curves and circles in the design. It is a nautilus design concept, featuring a series of concentric arcs. Instead of the usual rectangular designs, the mall is round, so you can walk round and round and not get bored. Check out these stairs, too!
Most first-time visitors to SM Seaside City Cebu will take a picture with The Cube, I guarantee it! If SM Mall of Asia has The Globe, SM Seaside City Cebu has The Cube. I think it is very clever, you know, Cebu and Cube are anagrams.
THE FOOD COURT
The place that is near to my stomach is of course, the Food Court! I like these new food court designs that provide better ambience and acoustics, and SM Seaside City Cebu’s Food Court looks pretty nice!
I like that it is near the windows, where diners can enjoy the natural light and the view.
Food Courts are a great place to dine on a budget! But that’s not the only reason to dine at food courts. I enjoy eating at nice food courts, like the one at SM Seaside City Cebu, because dining is straightforward. You pick your food, you order, you pay, you get your food. Easy.
Food is also fast, which is great if you are in a hurry (or eating a quick meal before watching a movie).
I also like the variety! You and your companions can order from different restaurants, and it’s okay! Sometimes I feel like eating Korean food, while my companions feel like eating Fried Chicken. Not a problem! Sometimes we even order appetizers, drinks and desserts each from different restaurants, too. And since the price is quite affordable, we can eat whatever we want!
At the SM Seaside City Cebu Food Court, you can get your Korean fix from Seoul Bibimbob, your Japanese fix from Tokyo Joe and the soon-to-open Teppanyaki Brothers, and your craving for Italian food sated at Sbarro.
If you are hungry for Filipino fare, you can choose from Island Grill, Belly Buster, Marina or Sizzling Plate.
For meriends or snacks, there’s Dimsum Break, the Original Jamaican Pattie Shop, and the soon-to-open Jafar’s Shawarma Station. For drinks, there’s Bon Appetea.
SM Seaside City Cebu has become a tourist destination itself, not only because it is a very convenient place to do everything you need all in one roof, but also because it was designed well and offers a spectacular view of the beautiful surroundings. I can’t wait to go see it myself on my next trip to Cebu. If you are in Cebu or are going to Cebu, make sure to check it out, too!
SM Seaside City Cebu is open from 10 AM – 9 PM daily.
